Expansion Plans for Georgia Medical School Under Fire
According to Rep. Bob Smith, taxpayers were not informed of plans to expand the Medical College of Georgia. The Augusta based college is Georgia's only state controlled public medical school. The plan is to open a satellite campus in Athens, in partnership with the University of Georgia to help address a shortage of doctors in Georgia. See Latest Georgia Headlines
Major Blood Drive Hosted by Georgia Medical Center
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, a major supplier of blood to the Georgia Medical Center, is planning a blood drive at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center on 9th March 2007 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the old nursing school.
Annual Georgia Medical Fair
The 2007 Georgia Medical Fair will be announced soon. The 2006 Medical Fair was held Sep 8 and 9 at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel in Georgia. The focus of the medical fair is physician and dentist recruitment for Georgia's 35 rural communities. More information on the Georgia Medical Fair can be found on the State Medical Education Board (SMEB) of Georgia's web site.
Scholarship Program for Georgia Residents
The SMEB was created in 1952 to provide a supply of physicians to rural communities in Georgia. Up to $20,000 per year is available to help offset cost at one of the approved Georgia medical schools. If you have a keen interest to be part of the Georgia medical community and are prepared to practice medicine full time in a rural community, then download the SMEB Scholarship Program documents.
Medical College of Georgia - State of the University
Dr Daniel W Rahn, the president of the Medical College of Georgia presented his annual state of the university address on 7 Sep at the Medical College of Georgia Auditoria Center. The event was open to the public and is always a great opportunity for prospective students to learn more about one of Georgia's top medical colleges. Corinthian Colleges received notice of an informal Securities and Exchange Commission inquiry, relating to historic stock option grants. Corinthian Colleges is one of the largest post-secondary education companies and operates 95 schools in the US - amongst them Georgia Medical Institute (GMI).
